Bangladesh Wheelchair Sports Foundation (BWSF) maintaining social distance during this COVID 19 situation organized ‘Jatir Pita Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Wheelchair Sports Carnival 2020’ on 05 December 2020 at Nahian's Sportsplex, Dhaka. Bangladesh Wheelchair Sports Foundation (BWSF) organized the event bearing in mind two major occasions the 100 years of the father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and International Day for Persons with Disabilities which was on 3rd December 2020. The sports carnival was done with the intention to improve wheelchair athlete’s game skills, physical and mental health conditions. In this sports carnival, 25 wheelchair athletes from all over Bangladesh participated in three sports championships, which are ‘Wheelchair Badminton Championship’, ‘Wheelchair Darts Championship’, and ‘Indoor Wheelchair Cricket Championship’.
In the ‘Wheelchair Badminton Championship’, of the sports carnival out of 16 wheelchair athletes who participated in this event Md Oliullah Oli of Pabna district won and the runner-up was Robin Gain of Khulna.
In ‘Wheelchair Darts Championship’ out of 24 wheelchair athletes who participated, Rajshahi’s Jahidul Islam won and Ravi Hansda became the runners up.
In the Indoor Wheelchair Cricket Championship three-team called Green, Red and Blue participated each having 8 wheelchair athletes. The captain of the Green team was Md. Rajon Hossain of Dhaka, captain of the Red team was Jabed Ahmed of Sylhet and lastly, the captain of the Blue team was Noor Nahian of Mymensingh. In the group stage first match, the Green team won with 4 wickets against the Red team, in the second match the Green team won with 4 wickets against the Blue team, and in the third match, the Blue team won against the Red team by 24 runs. In the final, The Blue team and the Green faced each other. In the first innings of the match, the Green team scored 61 runs losing 2 wickets depending on the 30 runs made by Robin, who remained not out, and 12 runs from the bat of Hamidullah. In the second innings, the captain of the Blue team Noor Nahian remained not out and scored 31 runs along with 23 runs from Tanvir with which the Blue team won the “Indoor Wheelchair Cricket Championship” with 5 wickets in hand.
Abdus Sattar Dulal, Founder and Executive Director of Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Somity, Daily Cricket.com.bd founder and CEO Rabiul Alam, Bangla Academy Deputy Director, Aminur Rahman Sultan, drama personality Ashiq Aziz and writer Saheli Tasima Firdaus handed over the prizes to the winners.
Rabiul Alam, founder and CEO of DailyCricket.com.bd, said, "They will continue to be involved in these events in the future." Abdus Sattar Dulal said, "Just as everyone is promoting Shakib-Al Hasan, if everyone stands by Noor Nahian, then wheelchair athletes and wheelchair sports will also move forward." Baul artist Kangalini Sufia performed songs in the cultural session. Cultural personality Hasan Imam Suite conducted the program.
